Day 1 of a planned 4 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting

This weekend I ate what I wanted. Really important psychologically when fasting so much.

As far as weigh gain, I eat 1k more in calories than I normally do and gain 5 pounds?

Its primarily just the weight of the water retained, primarily through glycogen storage, due to the excess carbs and protein I consumed.

If I consumed more fat at 9 calories a gram vs. carbs and protein at 4 calories per gram, I would have less weight gain with a higher number of calories.

My body consumes fats, carbs and protein. It is the amount of these macros that affect my weight.

This will work in the 'reverse direction'. Over the next days I will drop my carbs from 300 grams to only 20 grams (a 93% reduction) and the weight will dissapear even though the calories will only drop from 3000 to 1000 (a 66% reduction).

Yes, fat is retained. My body simply cannot store all that glucose as glycogen. It must convert some of it to fat. That fat will not come off until I reduce my dietary consumption and force my body to start converting fat to glucose.

The excess protein does matter to me. Where else is that protein going to go to? Some think the law of thermodynamics has something to do with weight loss and gain, but it is the law of the conservation of energy that applies. If my body consumes 100+ grams of protein that potential energy must be consumed or stored, period.

However, this week I will only have 4 days of this before I start eating a lot of carbs and excess protein again, so, I don't expect to make much 'progress'. Perhaps next week...

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

@liv001 - Yes, running this week would also help. Not just for the calorie burn, but mostly to draw down my glycogen stores.

Cannot find the study, but recall that powder food is problematic, regardless of what macro group they belongs to. Powders give the body a shock and unrefined gives a more desirable slow release. Feel that factor can be good to keep in mind also. Glad you had a good weekend off, and sound good and ready to get back to your thing.

@Diddlee - I suspect that more enters my bloodstream and in higher concentrations causing the process of glycogen and fat conversion to be different than with food that is more slowly digested in the intestines. So yes there is a trade off.

thanks for the reminder I didn't gain 5 pounds. I didn't eat carbs. I made a heavy cream keto shake and had lots of bacon. I guess better than a carb cheat. stress is hard on us. I hope your week goes well.

ok powder absorption timing probably is effected by what you eat it with just like carbs too

It is great to see that the mad scientist is still hard at work!!!!

I will give you a link to the study if I can find it again. It was Dr Michael Eades who referred to it in one of his presentations. Anyway, we do what we can. I'm a bit surprised by how hard it is to get my last bit of fat off. Always a stive to improve. Can we call it a 'hobby' :)

@nikeit - I like to journal my 'current thinking' because I have noticed it 'evolves' as I analyze the data. Basically I will gain and lose 5-8 pounds in a matter of days. That just can't be explained by the calories (consumed or expended). It's 'water'. But, where is the water stored exactly on my body? What is the chemical process that creates the storage? This is the thing I keep digging for...

@jenjabba - Stay the course! Hold on to the losses we have achieved :)
