Been doing some thinking about food. If I eat diet food at home and prepare all of my meals like most I will lose the weight. However, I think what I need to do is learn portion size, I mean really learn it. When we go out to eat which is roughly 3 times a week. Mainly as my wife does not cook anything but pasta dishes, and to be frank I get tired of doing all of the cooking we go out. So I do my best to order the lowest calorie meals and avoid the apps and such, (even though I really really want them) I still end up high in carbs and around 2000 to 2500 calories. some morning I wake up and I am not hungry at all. But my doctors all of them say I should eat something. Now I do a lot of household chores maintenance stuff cleaning, painting yard work etc... Not everyday but at least 4 days a week just to keep busy. Again if I don't eat lunch my Blood Sugar (bgl) will drop like a rock in a pond. So I eat (mostly the right stuff) my bgl spikes and I need to sleep a little. So I back to wondering if it pays to eat diet food are should I just eat really small portion of regular food.

What sort of diet food? In my opinion it is better to eat real food instead of something that is highly processed. I do understand about cooking and going out. I do 100% of the cooking at home, but that also means that I am in control of the menu. My husband would rather that I cook pasta, he now gets veggies instead, he always has the option of making himself a sandwich. When we go out to dinner, we normally select a place that we are both happy with. Often I'll order something off the appetizer menu with a side of veggies or salad. You can make it work, just keep tweaking what you are doing until you find what works for you.

Eating out is a real program killer for me. I always feel like it is a "special occasion" and an excuse to stray. Plus you know what is in your food at home.

Not sure what you consider “diet food”

I think the most succesful long term way of eating is one thaat accomodates all members in the household. Making different meals for different people I think would be hard to sustain. You might consider making more "crockpot" meals which are always easy... set it and forget it. How about when you cook make enough to freeze half so all that needs is for it to be reheated. At restaurants ask for a take out box when they bring the meal. Box up half and take home for next day meal. I also love pasta.... but have learned to cut back on the damage by adding lots of steamed vegetables right in with the sauce and pasta. Best of luck to you!

1. Carbs matter not, it's the calories. 2. There is no way of telling your caloric intake when you go out to eat 3 times a week unless it's fast food.

if you must go out, try going to places that have the calories on the menu like Applebee's and chilli's or Fridays etc.

You need to stop thinking of foods as diet food. Find healthy foods you enjoy and eat in reasonable portions. When you eat out take advantage of calorie counts to determine if you should eat the whole dish or maybe eat half & take half to go. Make healthy choices for your side dishes. Most resteraunts have sides of broccoli, green beans, spinach, mixed veggies or salads (with dressing on the side). I eat everything I like, but determine how much & how often based on total calorie count. Have some go to meals that are easy to prepare, lower calorie and enjoyable.

Eat at home...food you love and actually want to eat. Weigh and measure and count your calories. I'd rather eat 2000 calories of delicious food I love than "diet" food which is miserable. Going to restaurants would be very difficult that often. I don't cook either but I eat plenty... There are so many things you can eat that are low calorie and don't require much time in the kitchen. Good luck.

Are you diabetic?

I agree with DP. Eating at home is easier, healthier, and tastes better than eating out. To much processed food in most restaurants. You can control your diet much better at home and you'll feel much better!💜

With DP on this one, regular food, good food, healthy food, restaurants are difficult, but can be navigated. You've done pretty incredible so far, down 102. Keep it up.
