I decided to find out why pike were called jackfish. I still don't really know, cuz the world wide web can't agree. But, I'm delighted I did remember correctly! It is/was a common term for them when I was a kid. 😁

my grift was that I always caught the most, but would pretend to want to catch and release because I didn’t like cleaning them. Still works.
